Giving and Getting

Giving and Getting
A Lesson in Love and Karma from God

One person has a nice cushy job and makes $80,000.

They give nothing to anybody because of their own little project or something or other.

~

Another person only gets $1,100 per month.

She gave $25–50 to somebody because of their beautiful project.

~

Another person who is homeless has $5.

He gave $1 to his friend.

Is something fishy going on here?

Why aren’t the rich giving to the poor?

This is just my own personal experience. What is yours?

~ ~ ~ ~ ~

It seems like people are confused about the Law of God and Karma. Here are three versions of what God said about helping the poor from the Three Abrahamic Traditions.

Judaism

“Whoever oppresses the poor to increase his own wealth, or gives to the rich, will only come to poverty.” — Proverbs 22:16

Christianity

“And he (Jesus) sat down opposite the treasury and watched the people putting money into the offering box. Many rich people put in large sums. And a poor widow came and put in two small copper coins, which make a penny.

And he called his disciples to him and said to them, “Truly, I say to you, this poor widow has put in more than all those who are contributing to the offering box. 44 For they all contributed out of their abundance, but she out of her poverty has put in everything she had, all she had to live on.” — Mark 12:41–44

He said also to the man who had invited him, “When you give a dinner or a banquet, do not invite your friends or your brothers or your relatives or rich neighbors, lest they also invite you in return and you be repaid. 13 But when you give a feast, invite the poor, the crippled, the lame, the blind, 14 and you will be blessed, because they cannot repay you. For you will be repaid at the resurrection of the just.” — Luke 14:12–14

Islam

He who sleeps on a full stomach whilst his neighbour goes hungry is not one of us.” (Prophet Muhammad)

“O People, regard the life and property of every Muslim as a sacred trust. Return the goods entrusted to you to their rightful owners. Hurt no one so that no one may hurt you. Remember that you will indeed meet your LORD, and that HE will indeed reckon your deeds.” (The last Sermon of Prophet Muhammad)

“The best of you is he (or she) who is of most benefit to others.” (Prophet Muhammad)
